SMALL economies can flourish, even with diminished resource reserves, provided they have invested much of their resource income and developed good infrastructure. This was said by Nobel Laureate speaker Sir James A Mirrlees while delivering a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the International Food and Biotech Investment Conference yesterday.

ECONOMIC diversification has become “extremely urgent” as heavy reliance of the oil and gas industry continues to plague Brunei’s economy, the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources said. Muara Port has potential to become a regional hub

MUARA Port has the potential to capture incoming transshipment from cargo-heavy markets in the East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) and beyond resulting in an increased revenue base and channels for connectivity. In an interview, Ooi Lean Hin, managing director of Selangor-based MTT Shipping Sdn Bhd, said the Muara Port can be a regional hub and attract transshipment from markets within the areas of Sulawesi, East Kalimantan and the Fijian islands where there is a large market for cargo.
