Brunei Land Transport White Paper 2014

REDUCING car dependency, keeping traffic moving, achieving a sustainable society and strengthening governance are the four broad strategies identified in the Land Transport Masterplan 2014 (LTMP), which sets out a series of land transport policies under seven strategic goals containing a further 38 high-level and long-term policy recommendations.

THE Minister of Communication yesterday launched the “White Paper” for land transport which will pave the way for reduction of Bruneian’s dependency on cars, prevention of traffic jams, achieving sustainable society, and strengthening governance.

21st October 2014, BASED on the findings in the National Master Plan for a Sustainable Land Transportation System For Brunei Darussalam conducted by the Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies (CSPS), a MRT or LRT system is not feasible for the country because of low population density and high price tag of the system.

Brunei to Overhaul Land Transport System

21st October 2014, BRUNEI will overhaul its land transport system under a new master plan that promises a more integrated, rapid and efficient transport network. The Land Transport Master Plan sets out to reduce car dependency by improving public transport, including a bus rapid transit system with four major lines operating across the Brunei-Muara district.

The proposal will take account of the locality in relation to Malaysia and economic potential of the area in question. Industries with exposures to building and construction with an emphasis on sustainable products, renewable energy and logistics would be preferable.
