Brunei Agro Technology Park – The Crown Prince’s Working Visit

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, as Chairman of the National Committee of the 10th National Development Plan, in the morning consented to make a working visit to seven more projects under the National Development Plan.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince first visited the site for the Pharmacy Service Building and National Health and Medical Store Building Project in Kampung Madaras, Mukim Berakas ‘A’. Upon arrival at the site, His Royal Highness was greeted by the Second Minister of Finance at the Prime Minister’s Office, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman as Deputy Chairman of the National Committee of the 10th National Development Plan; the Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan; the Minister of Development, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi; the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya; as well as members of the 10th National Development Plan and senior government officers.

Construction of the Pharmacy Service Building and the National Health and Medical Store Building began in February and is expected to be completed in May next year. Construction of the Pharmacy Service building aims to enhance the quality of pharmaceutical services and to ensure continuous supply of safe, effective and high quality medicine to the public. Meanwhile, construction of the National Health and Medical Store building is to facilitate comprehensive sundries and medical storage as well as generate an efficient supply of medicine. This project, which began last month, is scheduled to be completed in September 2014.

His Royal Highness then consented to view the construction of a New Terminal Reservoir in Berakas and Kampung Terunjing. Construction of the terminal is to upgrade the supply of fresh water in the Brunei Muara District and to meet the increasing need of water in the district. This reservoir will become the Main Reservoir to channel fresh water from the Bukit Barun Water Treatment Plant in the Tutong District to smaller water tanks in nearby areas. Work on the pipes through which fresh water is channelled along the Muara Tutong Highway is currently in progress. The project which commenced in March 2009 is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2013.

His Royal Highness then consented to visit the Rimba Health Centre, Gadong. The complex aims to deliver to the public a comprehensive medical service, particularly those residing in Mukim Gadong. At the moment, the health services section for Mukim Gadong is situated at the Rimba Dialysis Centre. The project which began in January this year is expected to be completed in April next year. Services provided include primary healthcare, treatment for accident and emergency cases, Flu Clinic, a Pharmacy, Maternity and Children’s Clinic, Dental service and a blood test section.

From Rimba, Gadong, His Royal Highness consented to visit the Agro Technology Park in Kampung Tungku. Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Yahya. This park is part of the economic diversification strategy through the development of agro-industry that focuses on manufacturing halal products. With an area of 500 hectares, this Park is a massive high-tech one-stop industrial community which is expected to create more than 9 thousand job opportunities including over 2 thousand posts at the professional level. The first phase which covers 50 hectares is scheduled for completion in January 2013.

His Royal Highness then consented to proceed to the new Mechanic Training Centre, also in Kampung Tungku. Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by the Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar. His Royal Highness consented to take a closer look at a number of workshops at the Centre. This newly-completed building provides additional infrastructure which can accommodate a larger number of students, as well as a conducive and quality surrounding. This is in line with the needs to diversify technical and vocational programs to increase job opportunities for trained leavers from the centre as well to create potential and successful entrepreneurs in the automobile industry in the country in the future.

At the Conference Room of the Mechanic Training Centre, His Royal Highness was briefed on the First Phase of the Jerudong-Tungku Link Road Project. The first phase of the project which involves earthwork has been completed. The overall project of a 6-kilometre dual carriageway link road is expected to be completed next year.

In ending the working visit, His Royal Highness consented to visit the project site of the Jerudong-Tungku Link Road to take a closer look at the work in progress. When ready, this new Link Road is expected to ease the flow of traffic in the area and provide convenience to users. Work on the project has been carried out since June 2009.

The working visit by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince was a continuation of His Royal Highness taking a firsthand look at the progress of various projects under the National Development Plan. It aims to achieve the objectives of the Brunei Vision 2035, to make the country known for the accomplishments of its well-educated and highly skilled people, high quality of life, as well as a dynamic and sustainable economy.
