International Food and Bio-Tech Investment Conference

Brunei Darussalam through the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, is for the first time organising an International Food and Bio-Tech Investment Conference 2015. The Conference will be held this Tuesday. It is a comprehensive step and strategy in attracting potential investors to invest and operate in the Bio-Innovation Corridor.

The three-day Conference will focus indirectly on investment opportunities in the Halal Industry Sector besides further disseminating information on the Brunei Halal certification. The conference is designed as an initial platform in promoting Halal Products in the international arena. Awang Haji Sabri bin Haji Mohamad Taha, the Head of the Halal Industry Innovation Centre, clarified the main objective of the conference. He said the conference is in line with Brunei Darussalam’s desire to further increase diversification, competitiveness as well as economic sustainability. Among the topics to be discussed or put forth at the conference are to promote the uniqueness of Brunei Darussalam strategic position in ASEAN and its relations with the international community; the latest trends and opportunities in the Halal Food and Bio Industry; as well as the challenges and investment opportunities in ASEAN.

Awang Haji Sabri further said that the global Halal Food Industry is worth about 634-bilion U.S. dollars a year, and this is another opportunity for the country to become a supplier of halal food for the Muslim population throughout the world. Over 200 participants from within and outside the country are expected to take part in the Conference. They comprise owners or leaders of prominent companies in the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. With such a conference held in Brunei Darussalam, it is hoped that it could introduce to the delegates representing international companies, the opportunities found in Brunei Darussalam particularly in the Halal industry.
