Land Transportation Master Plan Signing Ceremony

The formulation of a viable and sustainable national land transportation system is a very important path towards achieving the goals of Brunei Vision 2035, in line with strategies on infrastructural development, economic development, education, small business development and institutional strengthening. This was stated by the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Roselan bin Haji Daud who is also Chairman of the Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies, CSPS, at the signing ceremony to commence a study titled “Review to Formulate a Roadmap and Draft Masterplan for a Sustainable Land Transportation System” in the morning.

Dato Paduka Awang Haji Roselan also emphasized that the main stakeholders of the study, the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Development, have been instrumental in framing the study objectives, and that the wider community such as schools, businesses, parents and youths will also be involved in the study.

The contract was signed between CSPS and the Consultants commissioned by the Centre, SQW China, which is a UK based consortium. Signing on behalf of CSPS was the Executive Director, Dato Paduka Dr Haji Ismail bin Haji Duraman while SQW China was represented by the Managing Director, Mr Gary Ho. Present to witness was the Minister of Communications, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar. Also present were the Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Dato Paduka Haji Ali bin Haji Apong, British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Rob Fenn.

At the ceremony the consultants gave two presentations on the project followed by an open discussion on key issues and challenges, and the way forward. The event took place at the CSPS Building in Gadong.
