BRUNEIMUARA: There is huge potential for building an economic corridor between Brunei and Guangxi province as part of efforts to strengthen Asean trade ties with China.

China can utilise Brunei as a hub to reach the Asean markets which will in turn boost Brunei’s trade and investment, Gary Ho, Managing Director of SQW China Limited and Managing Consultant of Brunei Bio-Innovation Corridor, said at the 10th Conference on Asean-China People-to-People Friendship which is currently being held at Tarindak D’Seni in the capital.

He also said that there is a need to strengthen logistics network between the two countries, adding that there are huge opportunities for Brunei in the ‘Halal’ food sector.

Also speaking during the sharing session was Dato Zuraidah binti Atan, Chairman of the Student Volunteers Foundation of Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, who highlighted that the primary objective of the foundation is to build volunteer leaders who are capable of contributing to the region.

The youth’s participation in the conference provides an opportunity for them to enhance their capabilities to guide the country forward, she said.

The sharing session saw over 10 speakers representing Asean member countries sharing their knowledge and experiences with participants of the conference.

Dayangku Siti Nuramalina binti Pengiran Haji Hairin, an undergraduate student at the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), said the experiences and knowledge shared by speakers at the conference will open the minds of youth. She also hoped that more youth will be motivated to contribute to the development of their country.
